TY - JOUR AU - Kumar, Vijay AU - Bist, Meenu PY - 2018/07/01 Y2 - 2024/03/29 TI - OVERVIEW ON ANTI-ACNE ACTIVITY OF METHANOL EXTRACT OF DRIED FRUITS OF EMBELIA RIBES JF - Innoriginal: International Journal of Sciences JA - IIJS VL - 0 IS - 0 SE - RESEARCH ARTICLE DO - UR - https://innoriginal.com/index.php/iijs/article/view/186 SP - 44-46 AB - <p><strong>Objective: -</strong> The present work was undertaken to validate the folk use of traditional Indian medicinal plant in the treatment of skin disorder by using scientific methods.</p><p><strong>Method: - </strong>The anti-acne potential of methanol extract of the fruits of <em>Embelia ribes</em> were evaluated against <em>Propionibacterium acnes</em>, <em>Staphylococcus epidermidis</em> and <em>Malassezia furfur</em> using well diffusion method.</p><p><strong>Result: - </strong>The result showed that drugs were active against all microorganisms. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC)<strong> </strong>value of the <em>E.ribes </em>fruits extract against test <em>S.epidermidis</em>, <em>P. acne</em>, and <em>M. furfur</em> were found to be 500 μg/ml, 600 μg/ml, and 400 μg/ml, respectively.</p><p><strong>Conclusion: -</strong> It was concluded from the study that the plant materials <em>Embelia ribes </em>are effective in acne vulgaris, and hence this can be used in topical anti-acne preparations.<strong></strong></p><p><strong>Key words: </strong>Acne vulgaris, <em>Propionibacterium acnes</em>, <em>Staphylococcus epidermidis</em>, <em>Malassezia furfur</em></p><p> </p> ER -
